FAQ

Personal

Where are you from?
I was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, and lived there until autumn 2008 when I moved to Dundee for university. I returned briefly to Aberdeen after graduating in 2012 before moving to Glasgow for full-time employment, where I continue to live.

What did you study at university?
I studied International Management at the University of Abertay.

Do you miss Dundee? Would you move back?
I do really miss Dundee and believe it is a wonderful city. I've made jokes that I'd like to retire there but time will tell.

Would you move back to Aberdeen?
Nuanced question as there are many things I miss about my home time and even after ten years in Glasgow I'm still not culturally a weegie, but me moving home is very unlikely.

How many piercings/tattoos do you have?
I have my ear lobes (which I almost never wear), forward helix, tragus, helix, rook and septum (plus a rejected belly button) with a few more planned. I have a rose tattoo on my sternum.

What is your sexual orientation and what pronouns do you use?
I identify as bisexual. I use she/her or they/them pronouns.

Blog

How old is mo'adore?
Currently eleven. I started my blog at the beginning of 2011.

How long have you been blogging in total?
I started my first blog in my third year of high school, which would have been roughly 2004/2005.

What camera do you use?
I use a Nikon D3100, with the AF-5 18-55mm lens. All Instagram photos were taken on my phone which is a Samsung.

What is the CFBloggers Chat?
This was a Twitter chat that I started several years ago and despite its success, eventually it faded out.

Do you accept PR?
I do, but only occasionally. I am very picky about who I work with.

Beauty

How long have you been cruelty-free?
I made the switch in the summer of 2012.

How do you feel about parent companies?
I try and avoid these products where possible, but don't actively boycott either. I have the usual reasons (still sends a message etc) but I am also sensitive to the financial/operational reasons as to why some companies might 'sell out' i.e. if they weren't bought over they may cease to exist completely.

Are you a natural/free from beauty user?
I am not a natural beauty user. I am interested in natural beauty products but I don't exclusively use natural products. My own research (including advice I've received by a scientist friend) leans towards the idea that there isn't anything dangerous about any of the chemicals found in beauty products.

Is your hair colour natural?
My natural hair colour is a chestnut brown which looks a bit red under certain lights. I highlight it using Lush Caca Rouge henna hair dye which provides more redness. I've been dying my hair so long I regularly just call myself a redhead.

Food

How long have you been vegetarian?
I considered vegetarianism for most of my life but various factors caused me not to follow through whilst growing up. My decision came as part of a New Year's resolution in 2011, and by September that year all meat had been cut from my diet.

How long have you been vegan?
I don't really have an anniversary for this, as it just slowly happened over time but roughly five years.

Do you have any intolerances/allergies?
I have a self-diagnosed soya intolerance. It doesn't affect my life that much.

Other Animal Welfare

Why do you hate PETA?
Cause they're full of shit. Okay, that wasn't eloquent. A more subdue explanation would be that whilst I am very passionate about animal welfare I am also passionate about other issues - issues that PETA push back a few years whilst peddling for animal rights. Body image, autism, the working class, sexual violence, and wheelchair users are other, very serious, issues which PETA has pissed on whilst promoting their own agenda. I have made animal welfare one of the main issues of my life but as someone who loves to geek over sociology and is passionate about intersectionality (the study of how different forms of oppression tie in together) whenever I am lending my support to one movement I make sure I'm not turning my back on another. Something PETA doesn't have the sensitivity to do.

They also have a really ill-informed cruelty-free beauty list where companies just have to sign a form to be added. They also take their time removing brands who have been known to sell in China.

How do you feel about medical testing?
I still take human life over animal life, so I relax my opinions on this matter. There's a difference between life-saving drugs and a lipstick.
